Eoghan Ruadh overcome Éire Óg

On a blustery evening in Garvaghey on the 23rd of October our U18 hurlers put in a battling performance to overcome the victors from the previous 2 finals.

The pitch at Garvaghey was in pristine condition and with plenty of support from both clubs it was sure to be a great battle.

Éire Óg starting with the breeze in their favour, got off to an ideal start with a goal from their first attacking play.

It wasn’t too long before Eoghan Ruadh was back on level pegging with a few great frees from Cormac McErlean.

Fine battling qualities from Eoghan Ruadh’s midfield pairing, covering loads of ground ensured the opposition would find it hard to score.

Unfortunately another goal was conceded around the 20th minute mark, despite a few goal chances of our own from Aodhan Molloy.

A few more excellent scores from frees and play, left the minimum in it at half time with Éire Óg leading.

With the breeze in our favour for the second half, it wasn’t long before the scoreboard was level.

Driving runs from Sheehan Fay and Leo Hughes through the Éire Óg defense was causing trouble for the 2023 Champions with our defenders keeping their dangermen quiet.

An exciting finish to the game with the Eoghan Ruadh lads putting their bodies on the line to prevent a goal ensured a 2 point win and entry into the Ulster series.

Well done to all involved.
