Green Club Activity at Eoghan Ruadh

Help us in our recognition to become a GAA Green Club.

The Green Club Programme was established to support Gaelic Games clubs in taking simple and effective sustainability action in their grounds and activities. The Programme is structured around the themes of Energy, Water, Waste, Biodiversity and Travel & Transport and is designed to promote sustainability awareness and action in GAA clubs and communities.

Our Volunteers attended a Green Club orientation day at Croke Park on Sat March 22nd where they were introduced to a wide variety of themes that can be introduced to our Club with the goal of helping the environment in the future years to come.

Native Tree Saplings were kindly donated by Coillte to our Club and planted in an area which receives a lot of water flowing from our playing surface. Hopefully in years to come they will create shelter belts, as they are planted along our walkway and will generally enhance the natural landscape and biodiversity of our Club grounds.

We thank children from the local Naíscoil & Gaelscoil Aodha Rua who had a great time helping with the tree planting.

We also have recently introduced a Club recycling scheme, where pre loved jerseys, shorts, socks, boots and hurls can be donated and distributed to whomever wishes to collect them.

Donation and collection days take place every Thursday after youth training in the summer months.

We once again kindly received flowers donated by Mary Kerr and our Green team were hard at work weeding around our walkway and planting for the Summer bloom ahead.

Don’t forget we are always on the lookout for green fingered volunteers who have a love for gardening.

If you wish to get involved don’t be afraid to contact us on 07716953708.

It is a great opportunity to make new friends and have a chat for an hour or so each week.
